TLKRs SCOOP PRESTIGIOUS DESIGN AWARDS

The Motorola TLKR T3 and T5 two-way radios were recently awarded the ‘red dot’ seal for high design quality at the design awards in Essen, Germany - one of the largest and most renowned design competitions worldwide. This award is only conferred to particularly creative, innovative and high-quality products and over 3000 products from some 51 nations faced the expert judgement this year.

Products submitted to the red dot design awards are assessed by an international jury consisting of renowned design experts. They examine and test the products and assess them according to criteria such as degree of innovation, functionality, ergonomics, longevity, ecological compatibility and clarity of function.

The TLKR T3 and T5 also received a bronze certificate at the International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) 2008, an annual event sponsored by the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) and US publication, BusinessWeek. The IDEA programme is an international competition honouring design excellence in products, eco-design, interaction design, packaging, strategy, research and concepts.

Developed for active, outdoor users, the TLKR radio series is intended to provide effective personal two-way communication independent of any network or licence registration.

According to Paul Bermingham, Director Global DECT & CBC at Motorola’s Government & Public Safety division, the TLKR series brings back a sense of heritage by finding strength in Motorola’s previously successful product designs and is reinventing the current PMR446 marketplace.
“The TLKR T3 and T5 re-state the PMR446 category by combining new forms with an iconic gesture echoing the corporation’s legacy of two-way radio. Special care was taken to be EPP compliant and environmentally responsible throughout the design and manufacturing processes,” says Bermingham.
“Successful products are different from less successful products in that they can survive in the real world,” explains design expert Professor Dr. Peter Zec, initiator of the red dot design award. “Successful participation in a design competition can already be an initial sign of a product’s later commercial success, because these competitions allow an objectification of otherwise often very subjective design decisions.”
Receiving an award in an internationally-renowned design competition such as the red dot design award was therefore an important indicator as to whether a product had the potential to succeed internationally.

MOTOLIVN DECT PHONES

It’s not even a year yet since the launch of the MOTOLIVN RANGE of digital cordless phones and they are already being noticed by the home consumer market. As a personal user of these phones at home I can certainly vouch for the stylish, sleek design, ease of use and programming to my own personal features.

And here's what Motorola say....

Building on their design heritage Motorola is famous for through its iconic mobile phones, so users can now enjoy the same cutting edge technology, quality and style in the home with the MOTOLIVN range of digital cordless telephones. From the stylishly simple, value-for-money D2 to the sophistication of the D7 and D8 series, the range comes with great features to allow complete personalisation of the phone experience.

They’re eco friendly too. By activating a clever function called Eco Mode, the intelligent base unit and handset work together so that, depending on the distance between them, they adjust the amount of power they use. This reduced power means more efficiency which allows for increased chat time and it’s better for the environment. Depending on the model, up to 250 phone numbers can be stored, with the ability to talk to other handsets in the home, see who’s calling using the Caller ID service, select from ten different polyphonic ringer melodies and transfer all contacts from a user’s mobile phone using the SIM card reader that comes with the D8 range. In addition, a location-free base unit provides freedom to place the phone in the most convenient place in the home. Phones in both the D7 and D8 ranges are available as ‘Standard’ or ‘TAM’ (telephone answering machine) versions. The Standard phones provide the core features discerning consumers will require and more, while the TAM phones offer all these features plus advanced answer phone functionality, including remote access to messages.

The D8 Skype range comes with all the features of the standard D8 range with added Skype compatibility.

Traditional cordless phones have never been celebrated for their exceptional clarity of sound, but with MOTOLIVN they surely are. Wideband High Definition Sound (HDS) is used to enhance what one hears, making conversations clearer due to richer and more life-like sounds with improved bass sensation.

TLKR T7 - COMING SOON !!!

It has been announced today that a new addition to the TLKR family will hopefully be here in September 2008.

A high-specification addition to the successful TLKR suite of walkie-talkies, the ruggedly designed, yet sophisticated TLKR T7 takes consumer two-way radio technology to new heights and is packed with sought-after features.

For example, the Direct Call option (essentially a speed dial) allows everyone in a group to be called simultaneously or an individual to be called without anyone else in the group knowing. With the Caller ID feature, a user can set a nickname which appears on other units’ displays when an “All Call” or “Direct Call” is made. Easy co-ordination of a channel change for everyone in a group is done with the Auto Channel Change option which is particularly relevant when there is a lot of interference on a current channel.

The TLKR T7 has 968 channel/code combinations and operates on rechargeable NiMH batteries offering up to 16 hours of battery life (based on 5:5:90 transmit:receive:idle) or four AAA alkaline batteries.

Other key features include:
vibrate alert
Vox/iVox for hands-free operation

keypad tones
a backlit display
